One of the most exciting things we did in Jaipur was visit the Amber fort. The fort itself is magnificent, located in the mountains above Maotha lake.
We rode an elephant up to the fort, which was even more incredible! As we were going up it really helped appreciate how huge and how far up the fort sits.
We got a tour of the fort, and the gardens inside. Every area of the fort was gorgeous.
I really liked these three doors:
One of my favorite parts of the fort was the area that had the emperor’s quarters. We got to see where his bedroom used to be, and learned that there were 12 secret passageways from his bedroom, each leading to the bedroom of his 12 wives. And there were a ton of other winding passageways in that area of the fort, with steep winding staircases and several doors leading from every room. It was so easy to get lost in there!
And one last look at the mountains as we leave:
As we were getting ready to get on our bus, we saw some cobra charmers! I have never seen a cobra before.
